The Losing Game: Writing Rejection 2/100

So I've been doing this new thing lately: I've been gunning for writing contests.

Writing contests have not been gunning for me, so much, but I'm excited to have reached a point in my writing odyssey where I'm going for big things, because as an individual, I am risk averse. I'm cautious, critical, and usually (with more notable exceptions than french grammar) I do not enter a competition of any kind unless I think I have a shot at winning. So this new drive to submit to contests, is it confidence? Maybe. I've got nothing to compare it to, (#ConfidenceAgnostic) so possibly. It could also be my wailing need for validation and glory come to call. And speaking of validation and glory, here's my second writing rejection of the year.

[WRITING REJECTION 2/100]

Dear Erin Kirsh, Thank you for sending us your submission "Three Poems". We received many submissions for this year's contest, and narrowing down this strong field was difficult. Although your poem(s) did not make it this year, please know that we truly appreciated the chance to read your work. Here is PRISM's Poetry Contest longlist for 2017. Your subscription to PRISM will begin with the Spring issue 56.3, which should reach your mailbox in April. Thank you again, and best of luck in the future with your writing. Sincerely, PRISM International

In the wise words of every scratchcard, better luck next time!

- E.B. Kirsh

P.S. Funny story. I couldn't find a graphic of a scratch card saying "better luck next time" or "you lose" or whatever, so I said fuck it, I'll go get one and take the picture myself. So I went out and bought a scratch card and instead of getting "sorry, play again", I won 15 bucks. Thanks, The Losing Game!
