The Losing Game: Writing Rejections 31-37/100
Hi folks! I don't know what to tell you. Quarantine is weird. We're living in weird times. I hope you're okay. I hope your families and friends and communities are okay. I hope you're finding activities to keep your mind in a good place. I hope you're being restful or productive or whatever it is you need to be being. I haven't been submitting as much work lately and I haven't written anything new. I've been doing some editing because it feels like I'm taking something chaotic and righting it. Symbolism. Shall we?
[WRITING REJECTION 31/100] Dear Erin,
We hope you are well in these worrying times. Thank you for sending us your short fiction and for your interest in The Stinging Fly.
I'm sorry to say your story has not been selected for publication on this occasion, but we're grateful to have read it and wish you luck placing it elsewhere.
With best wishes,
The Stinging Fly
[WRITING REJECTION 32/100] Dear Erin,
Thank you for sending us your poem. While we enjoyed reading your work, we're sorry to say it isn't a good fit for us at this time. Our submissions queue continues to grow, and we often have to reject many excellent pieces.
Thanks again for trusting us with your work. Best of luck with this and all of your writing.
Sincerely,
The Editors

[WRITING REJECTION 34/100] Dear Erin Kirsh:
Thank you for sending us your story. We really enjoyed this piece, but we didn't feel it was right for One Story.
We hope that you will continue to send us your work.
Sincerely,
The Editors of One Story
[WRITING REJECTION 35/100] Dear Erin Kirsh,
Thank you for your recent submission to the Sewanee Review. Unfortunately, your manuscript doesn't suit the present needs of the magazine. We hope you'll find a place for it at another publication, and that you continue to keep us in mind as a destination for future submissions.
Sincerely,
The Sewanee Review
[WRITING REJECTION 36/100] Hi,
Thank you for submitting to Scrivener Creative Review! We truly appreciate the opportunity to read your work, but unfortunately, we are unable to publish it at this time. We encourage you to submit new work when the next submission period opens.
Sincerely, Scrivener Creative Review
[WRITING REJECTION 37/100]
Dear Erin Kirsh, Thank you for sending your work to Fourteen Hills: The San Francisco State Review. Your poem was not selected as the winner of The Stacy Doris Memorial Poetry Award this year. We appreciate all of the innovative poetry we received, but could choose only one for the award. Many authors of original and well-crafted pieces will receive this letter. Please don't let this deter you from submitting in the future. Thanks again. Best of luck with your work. Sincerely, The Editors Fourteen Hills
Until next time, - E.B. Kirsh
